About this painting:

There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last (Luke 13).

This painting is my attempt to describe the sense of mystery I feel when reading the Bible or any other religious works. It also underscores the power of storytelling and how we rely on our own interpretations of reality every second of every day. This can be dangerous and can lead to false conclusions born from wrong assumptions, and actions taken regarding these stories we tell ourselves can be deadly – mentally, physically, and spiritually. I was always attracted to stories and pictures that hinted at something beyond what one was reading or seeing. I prefer to leave paintings ambiguous in order to encourage use of the imagination and one’s own interpretations – even if they are dangerous.
