Miscellany, meta version

Artist: Joel Kimmel

I say "meta" because the first link I'd like to present is an entry from SnailKid's wonderful blog, in which he discusses random art of various sorts. My favorite from this entry is Eric Sloane's Corn Bin, but I'll steal BeatUpCreations' "Mollusco Baby" as it's more arresting.

Second, wedding cakes. Yup, I'm getting married, and soon (September 6). I have not turned into Bridezilla, I'm happy to say, although things are really getting down to the wire and we need. to pick. a cake. A couple ideas here (and more at this link):

I'm torn.

Thirdly, sexist commercials sadly still reign supreme...and creepily, too.

And perhaps the most exciting find of mine this week: a trove of H.P. Lovecraft stories recorded by volunteers and presented to the universe for free. If you're a Lovecraft nerd like me, you will find this just as enticing.

In this week's "news"

Both an ingenious idea AND a massively clever headline: Car detour lets toads cross without croaking

In which JB discovers an absolutely fabulous poet (dead, of course), thanks to SnailKid aka Christopher Way: Translations of Aime Cesaire's Soleil cou coupe (not really for the faint of heart; puts Burroughs and Rimbaud to shame)

And in sadder, yet unsurprising, news.... [now there's a headline that pulls no punches]: Fukashima is still a disaster

At Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA

Every few days (or maybe even every day!) I hope to post something neat, something cool, inspirational on here (mainly so as not to barrage my Facebook friends to death).

Here's today's chills-inducing ballad from the always inspiring Robyn... enjoyeux, for Bjork's sake!

Something I'd like to explore more, even just for curiosity's sake: the Star Teachings Society.

And for some frivolity, this.
