Artist Notes:

I created Blooming several years back at this point (2017), and it represented a significant departure from earlier techniques I’d often used, one of which was the use of spray paint in mostly pastel colors to create organic, flowing shapes. On the one hand, Blooming is tongue-in-cheek and lightly ironic, my version of the “Live, Laugh, Love” artwork that used to be found often seen in the clearance sections of Home Goods and other large, mass-market interior design stores. However, on the other hand, Blooming is a simple, earnest still life, one featuring abstract shapes reminiscent of flowers in a rain-soaked garden. It is also one of my only paintings that spotlights the color blue; while I used to use blue tones more frequently in my early work, I rarely used it starting in the late 2010s.
